What we Do
The Association provides the following services to its member charities:
Advice and Information
Through its benchmark publications ("Standards of Almshouse Management" Fifth Edition 2008, and "Support & Car for Residents 2007), quarterly magazine (The Almshouses Gazette), and in response to specific requests by telephone, e-mail, by letter or via the website.
Assistance
In partnership with professional advisors who have specialised knowledge in a wide area.
Training
Regular seminars and training meetings for Trustees, Clerks and Scheme Managers/Wardens. A minimum of six seminars, geographically spread across the country, are available each year to cover topical issues, encourage networking, and update representatives of member charities and members of the Association's Panel of Consultants. Additional regional or local liaison assemblies of representatives of almshouse charities are also commonplace.
Funding
Advice on funding to improve, upgrade, refurbish or re-model existing Almshouses and the building of new dwellings.
Common Services
Investments, insurance, loans, VAT services, and some supplier discount services.
Representation
The Chairman and Director address the issues facing Almshouse Charity Trustees in the 21st century at an annual meeting in the House of Commons of The Almshouse Parliamentary Advisory Group (APAG), Other ad hoc meetings and representation with parliamentarians is a feature of the regular annual calendar.
